Office products "not responding" upon start up

Hello - I have just purchase a Lenovo X61 tablet running Windows Vista
Business 64-bit. I have 4 GB memory plus an additional 1 GB Intel Turbo Boost
chip running ReadyBoost.

The laptop came with Windows Office trial pre-installed, but my existing
product ID code wouldn't unlock it. I un-installed the trial version and
reinstalled from my Office 2007 Ultimate DVD and ran Microsoft Update to
install over 340 MB of Office-related updates. (Vista is all up to date as
well.)

Whenever I start up any of the programs, they immediately go into "program
not responding mode" for about 45 seconds before I can begin using them.
After that, they seem fine (although I really haven't used them much yet to
know if they remain stable).

Any ideas what may be causing this extremely frustrating delay?

One possibility is due to the way I installed the program. My laptop doesn't
have a DVD drive in it and so I copied the DVD onto an external USB hard
drive which I then ran the installation from. Would installing this way miss
something vital? I see that there is a 32-bit and 64-bit installation folder
and I assume that the installation process automatically know which one to
use?

I'm currently running Office Diagnostics to see if it comes up with
anything. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Boot up in safe mode, how's office now?
Installing from usb should'nt make any difference

Thanks for the suggestion. I can't seem to get Vista to want to start up in
safe mode by pressing F8. According to Lenovo discussion board, I have to
wait until after the lenovo logo disappears to press F8, but this doesn't
seem to work either. Is there any way to get to safe mode from the bios setup
(F1)? F1 and F12 are the only two options that seem to work. Should I try any
other F#?

Please disregard my last post. -- I finally got safe mode to come up. In the
safe mode environment, the office products work fine. So this means that one
or more of the drivers that are loaded in addition to the ones loaded in safe
mode may be causing the conflict, correct? If so, do I try loaded them one at
a time to see which one causes of the conflict, or do I let them all load and
turn them off one at a time?

One of the safe mode options is to spit out a report of all the drivers that
load in the normal process and so I can pretty much work backwards from that
list turning stuff off. The last driver listed on the ntbtlog.txt file was
the last one to be loaded, correct?

Thanks again for your help -- it's much appreciated.

Not neccessarily drivers that are loading, but applications that auto start.
If you start msconfig, then disable all startup items, then reboot,
excepting the msconfig msg then retest Office
If ok its a question of re enabling a batch of auto start itmens & retesting
until you find the culprit.

You might first want to try uninstalling any anti virus application, reboot,
then testing, if OK reinstall the AV without any Outlook or Office
intergration
