Office Professional 2003 Updates Keep Failing

I've got a very annoying and frustrating problem

Every time I switch on my PC, the "Updates are Ready for Your Computer
icon appears in my system tray. When I click to install the updates, th
installation starts. The problem is, during the installation of th
first update, a message appears, saying

-"Microsoft Office Professional 200
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that i
unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to
folder containing the installation package 'PRO11.MSI' in the bo
below."

If I click "OK", a shorter message appears, telling me to fin
PRO11.MSI again

If I click "Cancel", the update fails

The same thing then happens with the next update, and then the nex
update, etc., until I go through all of the updates

Here are the updates that keep failing

UPDATE FOR OUTLOOK 2003 (KB943649
SECURITY UPDATE FOR ACCESS SNAPSHOT VIEWER 2003 (KB955439
SECURITY UPDATE FOR MICROSOFT OFFICE 2003 (KB921598
OFFICE 2003 SERVICE PACK 3 (SP3
SECURITY UPDATE FOR MICROSOFT OFFICE POWERPOINT 2003 (KB948988
SECURITY UPDATE FOR OFFICE 2003 (KB945185
UPDATE FOR MICROSOFT OFFICE 2003 (KB978551
SECURITY UPDATE FOR MICROSOFT WORKS SUITE 2005 (KB943973

SECURITY UPDATE FOR MICROSOFT OFFICE WORD 2003 (KB954464
SECURITY UPDATE FOR OFFICE 2003 (KB954478
SECURITY UPDATE FOR MICROSOFT OFFICE EXCEL 2003 (KB955466
UPDATE FOR OFFICE 2003 (KB907417
UPDATE FOR MICROSOFT OFFICE OUTLOOK 2003 (KB953432
As you can see, they are all related to Microsoft Office Professiona
2003

I understand that all I need to do is provide the path to PRO11.MS
when the first message appears. However, I can't find the file anywher
on my computer. And I do not have the Microsoft Office Professional 200
installation CD. The program came pre-installed on my computer. Nor do
have a repair CD of any kind

How can I fix this problem

If it can't be fixed without the installation CD, how can I sto
Windows from trying to install these updates, without switching of
Automatic Updates? I have tried clicking "Custom installation", the
unchecking the updates, before checking "Don't notify me of thes
updates again," but it doesn't work

Help! It's driving me crazy

I use Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 3. Microsoft Office Professiona
2003 came with my PC, pre-installed, licensed and perfectly legal.
bought the PC about 4 years ago

I haven't played with anything at all recently. The only thing that
have done is install and then uninstall Windows Live Messenger. Coul
that have caused the problem

Did you delete any Office folders from your hard drive, or use a disk
cleaning utility that might have cleaned up "unused" files?

You may want to contact the company that pre-installed it, or the computer
manufacturer to get discs, since it appears that a local installation source
or other installation source is missing.

20100206,

Perhaps you have a more constructive solution for the OP than to criticize
those who are trying to help.

Are you serious advising the OP to contact the company that pre-installed
Office 2003? Who in their right mind would keep disks for 7 years' old
software. M$ doesn't so why should another commercial organization keep on
behalf of M$.

You are completely mad.

Even if the troll looks at you with big eyes and pleads hunger, it's best for
the rest if you don't offer TrollChow. ;-)

I do but the idiots like you keeps deleting my messages because they contain
correct, workable solutions. You are a professional c**k s**ker. I know my
messages are getting at you nutters when they are being deleted otherwise
there is no fun of being here.

Go and get some more d i c k s to play with. Once you have read this, go
and get it deleted so that I know you have read it.

Good bye.

Oh, I could offer "chow" if I chose...

"Oh, I'll take the high road, and I'll take the high road, and I'll plonk
the poster afore ye!"

Erm . . . Thanks, guys. I think.

When I logged in and saw nine responses, I thought that a solution t
my problem was at hand. Instead, I got an argument. :D

No. However, I did recently install Windows Messenger. I didn't lik
it, so I uninstalled it. That's approximately when this proble
started.

I just tried to completely uninstall Office, because this problem'
annoying me. But guess what happened? My computer asked me fo
PRO11.MSI again! It seems that I can't even uninstall Office withou
this stupid file.

I have contacted the guy who built the PC for me. He's a compute
technician. I'm going to have him bring the CD to my home. Either tha
or I'm going to conduct a complete reinstallation of my operatin
system. My computer needs it; it's getting really slow.

Thanks for the help. ;

Make sure that "the guy" has given you a valid license, and you should
probably have the CD yourself if you own the software license.
