Office Programs do not quit

O

omsoft

I have XP SP2 and Office 2003 SP3.
Lately, I have noticed that when I exit from any of the Office programs -
Word, Excel, Access, Outlook - they seem to quit but an instance remains. I
can see them in Task Manager. This over longer term causes performance
degradation.

Has anyone noticed this?

I am suspecting ActiveSync (for SmartPhone synchronizing) or Norton 360. But
not sure. Any thoughts?

Thanks much.

If you are using Word as the Outlook editor, having your PDA/smartphone
cradled will keep both in memory.

I turned it off. But that did not do anything.
It also happens with Excel and Access.

I have the same problem. Have trawled the internet to find solution
but no luck. Have you had any luck with this yet.

Are you using ActiveSync (for SmartPhone synchronizing) or Norton 360?
Maybe you stumbled on the cause?

I finally found a workaround on Symantec community forums. The issue is with
zombie processes. I do not have a way of accessing it right now, but if you
look for it on their community forum site, you will find it. The process
unregisters one of their shell DLLs.
