Office programs don't start and gives "requires macro support" err

M

Mark

My office programs (Word, Excel, etc) load to the beginning screen and a
pop-up error box comes up that states "The function you are attempting to run
contains macros or content that requires macro support. When installed, you
didn't choose to install support for macros." Then the office program
closes. I tried installing my legal copy but I don't see any option to
choose. I do have Trend anti-virus installed. This first started when
spellcheck stopped working. I uninstalled Office, reinstalled and now
nothing works. Help!

The error message indicates two things. 1) that when Office 2007 was
installed VBA wasn't also installed and 2) you have a macro that is
attempting to run when you Office applications start. More than likely it's
a harmless third-party add-in, such as Adobe's PDF add-in (although some
would say it is a bit harmful since it can be a nuisance <grin>) but it
could be an indication of a macro virus.

Personally, I'd determine what is trying to run when the applications start
first to make sure it isn't malicious.

If you want to install VBA then in the Office 2007 setup (In Add/Remove
Programs) you'll find it under Office Shared Features. Set Visual Basic for
Applications to "Run from my computer".

What the heck? I need my Office programs to work! Personally, I don't have
a clue why my expensive program doesn't work.

Yes. A virus can cause symptoms you describe. More than likely not but if I
were you that's something I'd rule out first. Something that may seeminly
look innocent can end up costing you more money.

I am experiencing the same sort of issue when I attempted to set up a mail merge from my Outlook contacts. This has only happened since a recent (several months ago) clean install of the system.

what might be the fix for this? (I have the text of the error message, but not quite sure how to make this work)
