Office random start times

Hi,
One of our users is complaining of random delayed startups. When the user
double clicks on any office document the first time after start up nothing
appears to happen for about 30 seconds, then the document will appear, then
the next few documents will load properly and quickly and then another slow
one etc. This problem plagues all the office programs in the suite which the
user uses. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

For trouble shooting, are the documents on a server, or local? If
server, perhaps connectivity issues for that PC.

Good question, I meant to include that in my first post, the documents are on
both.

You wouldn't happen to be using a "document" AV scanner? Like Norton
Anti-virus Office plugin?

not a Norton scanner but possibly a Trend scanner, although I would have
thought that would affect all users not just the one.
