Office Standard vs. Professional

Please forgive my lack of knowledge on this topic.

We cannot disc defrag, due to shortage of free space.

Checking installed programs by size, the largest is MS Office Standard
Edition 2003 (4,092MB). It came on the PC when purchased about 5 years ago.
Second largest is MS Office Professional Edition 2003 (901MB). We added it
about 3 years ago.

Every Update and Security Update listed under the Standard Edition is
duplicated in the list under the Professional Edition. Also, the
Professional Edition has 2 Security Updates listed that do not show under the
Standard Edition: Snapview for Access 2003, and MSPUB for Publisher 2003.

Here's the question: Can we remove the entire Standard Edition without any
loss of function, data, etc.?

It takes up so much space compared to the Prof Ed, it's hard to see how
something cannot be lost. Of course, our biggest concern would be our saved
files.

Thanks to all for your patience and help on this.

Standard edition using that much storage space (4 GB) probably has data
files or some other types of files other than just the program files stored
within the folder structure, along with the 901 MB of space holding Pro
edition. Be very careful about deleting the folders prior to finding out
what is using that much file space.

To clarify how much space is normally required, on my computer the 2003 Pro
edition (full install minus Outlook) is held in under 300 MB of drive space.
Since I also have 2007 and 2010 installed on the same machine there may be
some overlap of files (2007 files used by 2003 etc.) All together I have
used only 1.8 GB running Office 2003 Pro, 2007 SBE (with Outlook with
Business Contact Manager), and 2010 Pro Plus Beta (minus Outlook) and a
standalone Publisher 98 and PPT viewer install and template files for all,
and I still only consume 1.8 GB of HDD space.

You need to do a lot of research prior to just dumping files or folders or
even uninstalling one of the two versions installed.

4Gigs for Office Standard? Better find out what is stored or taking up that much
space before doing or even thinking about deleting anything

I also was thinking along the same lines. But the computer is in front of the OP and
not in front of us. Only he can tell.
