Office STD 2003 installation problem

Dear,
I have spent 3 hours solving this problem except reformating the machine.
If anybody have the same problem and solution, please help. Thanks in
advance.
Try to reinstall Office, 1) remove the earlier version of Office, 2) run
setupstd.exe but the screen just stop at "Preparing Microsoft Office
Standard Edition 2003 Wizard" for whole day without any response. No error
message pop up or event log. Have verified that MSIinstaller is working
fine.
I have tried searching solution off the net but no help, here is my last
hope before formatting the HDD ....

Can you try it on another computer to ensure it's not a bad disk?

You can also check the installer log file to see if that gives you any clues
to why it's hanging up:

Also, you might try running a scandisk and disk defragmentation just to rule
