Haven't seen that version in 10 years, and my memory is bit foggy, but
possibly because Office 4.2 is not Y2K-compliant?

Hi BLS,

Office v4.2 (Office Standard 1993) was designed
for Windows 3.1. It can work on newer versions
of Windows but you may need to have a utility to
read the DMF (denser than normal) formatted diskettes
if you're installing from a MS Office diskette pack
rather than from an Office v4 CD. You may also
need to use Windows compatability mode.

What version of Windows are you using and what
is the exact error message you're getting.

Be sure you've shut down all running software
utilities and antivirus when trying to run setup.
