The updater just installed the 11.3.9 update and I missed finding a read
me file to know what was changed.

Anyone have a Read Me file or URL to what has been changed?

First, you can always check the 11.3.9 Update Log.txt file in the

HD:Applications:Microsoft Office 2004:Office:Updater Logs

folder. You'll find that only two files were changed (actually, one file
and one package, but they look the same):

Microsoft Component Plugin
WordPDE.plugin

Second you download the updater from Mactopia. The download contains the
ReadMe, which reads, in part:

This update adds or changes the Office application files shown in the
following list. After you install the update, you can compare the
version numbers of these files to verify that they were installed or
updated. To see the version number of a file, select it in the Finder,
and then on the File menu, click Get Info. Additionally, you can find
the full installation path for each updated file by reviewing the
updater log file in the Microsoft Office 2004/Updater Logs folder on
your hard disk.

Thanks..... there is an advantage to downloading from Mactopia vs. the
Microsoft AutoUpdate.app that does not provide the ReadMe file

Personally, I find that downloading updaters from the source do better than
using the auto updaters. This is especially true for the big OS updates.
Combo updaters will go back and overwrite files that have become corrupt
where an updater will just install new files.

Yup - it should be included in Autoupdate, IMO.

However, one could argue that those that have AutoUpdate set to update
Office just want things to work. And for 99% of AutoUpdate users, it
does.

What would be nice, in case the MBU is around:

1.) Have Auto Update actually save the readme file for each update in
a folder in the Office folder (since when you download and run the
updater manually you get BOTH a log file in a folder and the ability
to save the readme file).

2.) Have Auto Update be able to show an update history

3.) Have Auto Update list the installed component plugin.

Just my 2 cents..
