Office Update 12.1.0 Will Not Install on Mac

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I have tried to install update 12.1.0 on my Mac. The update is downloaded, but the installer seems to freeze with the message "Preparing Office 2008 SP1 Update (12.1.0)." It will not go past that point in the installation. I have even left it to install for a period of two days, only to find that there had been no progress.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Microsoft Office, thinking that would help, but the result was still the same as before.

Can someone help me? I really need these updates!

If you move the installation window, underneath will be a warning dialogue
box, if you click ok, the installation will continue.

It's poor programming on Microsoft's part, as the warning dialogue doesn't
display on top.

It is not Microsoft fault. When the installer was built, Leopard allowed
AppleScripts to run in installer. A security update in Leopard broke the
installer (it was released at almost the exact same time). BTW, the script
is to get around the user not reading the directions and quitting all
Microsoft applications.

All future installers take the security update into the build so this does
not happen now. Obviously rebuilding an updater is more complex that most
realize or they would go back and fix all of the older updaters.
