You're kidding, right? I have not had one single MacOffice 2008 update work for me correctly since I've installed it. "Esoteric potential problems"? How about an update that both installs correctly and works? Is that too much to ask?

No, I am not kidding. I am responding to one person about the specific
problem he's posted.

Please don't try to apply my response to *your* problems.

I do agree that Microsoft has had many issues since switching to the
Apple Installer. They certainly need to spend more time developing and
troubleshooting their process.

However, their installers 1.) have not worked at all, 2.) deleted their
own applications or 3.) set incorrect permissions. They've not been
proven to cause user data loss.

I'm comfortable stating that none of the Microsoft installers have ever
destroyed user information. They are simply not written to do anything
inside the Users folder. Until we have multiple substantiated reports of
users losing data due to updates then the more logical reason is either
user error or some type of computer corruption.
