Office Update is unable to check for updates

Hi
Just had a problem with office that required me using the MSI clean up
tool to remove office 2003 and then I reinstalled 2003 but it thinks (or I
think it thinks !) that the updates are already installed thus I get the
error "Office Update is unable to check for updates" so I do I reset the
office updates so it will auto detect and update from the MS site?
