Office Update Refuses to Work

I do not know what is going wrong but I cannot use the Office Update site. I
click on "Check for Updates". It gets to 40% and then my IE6 window simply
closes without any further action.

Has anyyone seen this and, even more important, does anyyone have a
solution.

I have Office Professional 2003 and Windows XP Pro.

I have a similiar problem...see my new post. The MS
Office on-line site thinks I have an unsupported browser,
I use IE6, and it thinks I have a MAC OS when I am
running WinXP Pro.
