Office updates and security?

We have read how important it is to keep Windows Updates current. But what
about Office. Could not having Office Updates installed compromise a
computer? Could this affect computer surfing the web or doing downloads?

It's a matter of unclear phrasing. He asked if "not having" them could
comprise the system. And I assume (I know that's a dangerous thing) that he
was carrying over the same thought to the last question.
