Office updates failing to install

Had this istall failure issue for some time.
Update log file text follows:
"DEBUG: Error 2746: Transform 1TTo1U invalid for package
C:\WINDOWS\Installer\298ba.msi. Expected product
{901C0409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9}, found product
{90110409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9}.
1: 2746 2: 1TTo1U 3: C:\WINDOWS\Installer\298ba.msi 4:
{901C0409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9} 5:
{90110409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9}"

This repeats for each install attempt with only '1TTo1U' changing to
'2TTo2U' and '3TTo2U' and so on. Also get the same text in "Repair Log File".

Any advice please ? Is this a registry problem ?
