Office Updates

I have not received an Office 2003 update since October 2005 although the
automatic function is on and it was working fine at that point. The Office
update site gives me a number of reasons it cannot update - none of which are
useful. If I go to Windows Update and check Custom, Office appears below
Windows but with (0) updates available. OS is XP Home. I cannot even use
the repair function in any application as it refuses to recognize the cd in
the drive or the enabled LIS. Am I missing something here?

1) Does winupdate (critical) work?
2) What msgs do you receive on the Office Update site?

Winupdate "critical" works only for Windows updates. Offices shows as having
(0) updates available and only if I use custom and not express. I have
Office 2003 Pro. Updates worked fine until Oct 2005.

The error on the office update check is below and the third possibility
seems to be the most likely. Frankly I have given up and will uninstall and
reinstall today - not a palatable prospect but I hope it will also correct
the Outlook malfunction that a bunch of us have been experiencing lately. I
have successfully enabled the hidden file - and it recognizes the disk on
enable but still does not work. All attempts to detect and repair say it
cannot find the installation source. I tested access to the files on the
disk and neither autorun nor setup will execute on my machine but will on
another. Dell did the original installation but I realized long ago I would
get no help from them on software issues.

"Office Update is unable to check for updates Help

The Office Update site is unable to check for updates on this computer. This
may be happening because of one of the following reasons:

You do not have administrative privileges for this computer.
There is a network problem and the detection catalog used by the Office
Update site failed to download. Go back to the Downloads home page and try
running detection again.
Windows Installer patch files (.MSP files) from previously applied Office
updates are missing from the \Windows\Installer hidden directory on your
computer. MSP files are stored on your computer after update installation
completes because they need to be referenced for future update operations. If
the files are missing you will not be able to apply Office updates. You may
also be unable to uninstall Office products as a result of the same problem.
Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services for assistance.
You installed Office updates in the past and then upgraded from Windows
Installer version 1.0 to Windows Installer version 1.1. For more information
see the KB article Windows Installer May Prompt for Install Source if
Unavailable."
