Office Upgrade, 279MB files leftover...

G

George

I upgraded Office 2002 to Office 2003. Later, I was doing a routine Disk
Cleanup (Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup)
and noticed it now includes one extra line items in the list:

[ ] Temporary Internet files
[ ] Office Setup Files 279,532 KB <-------
[ ] Recycle Bin
etc.

Questions are...which of the following are true:

a) The upgrade put the "Office Setup Files" onto the hard drive so I
would'nt have to use my Office CD to install things in the future

b) I can check [x] Office Setup files and let cleanup erase these files,
without any harm or consequence except that I may or will need the Office CD
to do updates, install certain elements, and so forth

c) People generally delete the Office Setup files because _________________

d) People generally KEEP (and don't check [x]) the Office Setup files
because _______________

What do MOST people do?

Thanks,
George

Office 2003 has a new feature called the Local Installation Source file
option (LIS). Msft makes a copy of the CAB files to a hidden folder called
MSOCache on your hard drive during setup. Assuming you have the space, the
folder will be 279MB in size. If you have the room, I would recommend
keeping it. We use it in our corporate environment for users who travel with
their notebooks, that way they can repair/reinstall or add new features while
being away from the original installation point on the network.

However, you can delete these files without any harm to your installation.
In fact, their is a tool called, LIS TOOL, on the Msft Office Resource Kit
website that gives you some options on moving or changing the folder where
these files are stored.

Bottom line, if you have the room, keep it. It can come in handy if you
ever misplace the CD.
