I replaced my hard drive in my laptop. I tried to reload office standard 2007
(ugrade version) from the disk but am advised do not have the base office on
my system. I have my old hard drive (now external) but have not been able to
find the file for the base office system on it, or at lease one that office
upgrade standard 2007 will recognize. help please? thanks in advance.

It depends what your origonal qualifying version was, as it may have been
removed during your origonal upgrade.
Do you recall whether it was an earlier version of Office, or maybe Works?
Do you not have the disks which came with the origonal PC?

Hopefully you still have your original Office media for the previous version
- that's the only reliable way to handle it. You will need to place that
disc in the drive at the prompt for qualifying product, and then after the
screen advances, place the Office 2007 disc back in the drive; same ol'
drill.

What previous version and edition of Office do you have?

Right - you obviously had a valid, qualifying, functional installation of
Office 2000 or later on your old hard drive; so if you don't have the CD
anymore, then really the only thing you can do is point the Office 2007 Setup
to the \Program Files\Microsoft Office folder on the old hard drive and hope
that it still is detectable.

something like that, i went into the folder to see if there was a specific
looking file that may work but nothing looked obvious, and after trying about
10 different folders and subfolders, i gave up and posted in this discussion
group. thanks a lot, i guess i need to buy another version or something, any
ideas?
