Office X and Leopard (10.5)

Version: v.X
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Intel

We want to upgrade our Macs to 10.5, but are stuck with Office X (our employer doesn't want us to be out of line with the Windows users in the organisation, who are also using a fairly old version of Office).

We've had no problems using Office X on our 10.4 Intel Macs, despite a few initial warnings that it wouldn't work.

Can anybody confirm that Office X will still work OK on 10.5?

"OK", yes :) At the moment it's a bit iffy - for the most part you should
find that there is nothing of significant concern. Keep in mind, though,
that Office X will have no further updates (10.1.9 was the last) so as OS X
continues to evolve that version of Office will be left further behind.
There's no guarantee that the next update to Leopard (10.5.x) won't break
Office X.

X & 2004 both use the same default file format (.doc) as do 2003 & prior on
the PC. Also, the latest versions of Office (2008 Mac & 2007 PC) continue to
support it (even though their native format is .docx). Additionally, the
free converters from MS enable Office 2000-2003, X & 2004 to open & save to
the new format.

If you have older computers, you might be better off sticking with Tiger.
Leopard requires more RAM and can really slow down older computers.

Office X does work with Leopard currently. You will not get any security
updates with could be important for your business. The last update for
Office X was Microsoft Office v. X for Mac 10.1.9 Update release date
1/5/2007.

Be sure you are updated by checking the Microsoft Component Plugin to see
that it shows 10.1.9.
