Office X - NT server - incomplete files

B

Bob Coleman

We are running Office X (with all current updates) on
iMacs & eMacs using OS X 10.2.6 in an education
environment. We use a server running Windows NT as a file
server. When students open their PowerPoint assignments
that have been saved on the server; any clipart,
backgrounds, etc. are missing. In the best case a large
red X appears. In the worst case, the file can not be
opened. We get a message about "part of the file is
missing"

We tried the "save as package" without any success. Any
other suggestions, patches, work arounds, etc.

Thanks,
Bob

This kind of thing is quite common when you save files from a Windows
version of PPT to a non-Windows networ. I wonder whether the opposite is a
related problem, saving from a nonWindows version of PPT to a Windows
network?

In any case, as a test try running like so for a while: have the students
save to their local drive and open from their local drive -- only and
always. Copy files between the network and local drives using Finder as
needed.

Steve,

Thanks for the info. That seemed to work as a work around.
If anyone hears of any other solutions, I would like to
hear about it.
