Office XP hangs when using Open dialog box

Chris

I have a user who is unable to open a file by clicking on
File, Open, and using the down arrow to browse to the
file. The application just hangs. She is able to open a
file by double-clicking on the file directly, before Word
or Powerpoint is open, but not by using the Open dialog
box.

This happens in all applications of Office XP. I re-
installed Office and installed all service packs and
updates, but no luck. Any suggestions?

Thanks

This isn't an Office problem. This is usually because in the folder entered
by using the down arrow, there is an FTP site saved.

Correct: one that no longer exists.

Terry

: Not just an FTP site but an *invalid* FTP site (whatever that is).
