Alright, here is my dilemma....

I am running Windows 2000 Pro and have been using MS Office X
(Version10.0.2627) on it for the past few years....the computer crashe
due to a virus and so I had to reinstall Windows 200
Pro...unfortunately I can't find the office CDs, but it appears tha
all of the MS Office files, programs, etc are still on th
computer....however, when I attempt to open Word, etc. it starts u
with an "unknown user" and "unregistered version"...and then I reciev
an error message that says the program has not been installed for thi
user and to run the "setup"...unfortunately I assume "setup" is on th
MS Office CDs...is there any hope in salvaging MS Office w/o the CD
and the setup program?

Thanks,

A

The Office setup program writes dozens of entries to the Windows
registry. If you reinstalled Windows, then you will have to reinstall
Office too, and you will need your CDs to do this. Microsoft no longer
provides replacement CDs for Office 2000. You might be able to find
Office 2000 CDs on eBay (make sure it's the same edition as what you
have, e.g., Standard, Small Business, Professional, Premium, etc.). You
should also consider purchasing a newer version of Office.
