Office XP Product Key

I have been given the assignment of organizing all the software for our other
store's computers (what a mess) and I found a version of Microsoft Office XP
Professional with publisher (complete with certificate of authenticity and
product key). There is no computer name on it. How do I know if it has been
used or not?

I am currently rebuilding my computer and if this is not being used I would
like to use it, but I do not want to get into trouble by trying to use it and
finding out it is already in use.

Thank you very much.

Have you tried asking anybody? Other than that, there is no way to tell
prior to installing it..

Dear Mike:
There is no one to ask. I found a motherboard cd along with the Office CD
in a box with a bunch of other software. Whenever I worked on a computer for
that store, I always named and dated the cd, so I would know exactly where it
went and when it was installed, but these cd's were loose.
If I install it, and it is being used already, will it come up and give me
an error notice?

Thank you.

Marie

The installation should not do that, but the product will have to be
activated.. best is to try it and see what happens..
