Office XP Professional

Mike

Everytime I try to open any of the Office applications (PPT, Outlook, etc,.)
it promts me to install "FrontPage".

I don't have the CD's with me, so can't install it. The truth is I don't
know what it's for.

If I cancel the request it then opens the application, but if in outlook I
try to launch PPT from an attachment on an email the same thing occurs.

How can I disable this?

Thanks, Mike

You need to allow the setup to continue until it is complete - there are files/dlls/etc. missing that are required.

I have the same issue. The CD's are not available anymore. How do we stop
the msiexec installer from trying to install. Is there a place in the
registry that
can be removed to stop this? Surely MS did not design their software so that
an installation can't be cancelled.

Are there any real MS Techs out there that can solve this?

In some community forums real Manufacturer's tech folks also read the posts and
reply back. It was just a long shot since there doesn't seem to be an answer
to this
problem from the community that I can find. I've tried searching all over
the place for an answer.

Myself and the other folks can't be the only ones that have had this problem.

Since the installer is looking for Office XP Pro I doubt a newer version
would
work. Is this a correct assumbtion?

Thanks,
Skicat

Yes, but it won't cost more than a few minutes of your time to try it.

Well I found outh that this version of XP Professional was the special
edition version
with Frontpage. The newer version I have is Office 2003 but it does not have
Frontpage. I would surmise that the installer needs the Frontpage part since
that is what is trying to install.

Rats! It looks like I'm out of luck.

Thanks for the reply

Well, it didn't work. Since this pc has other issues ( lack of disk space,
older
cpu, old sdram, i can't find all of the cd's ), it's time to wipe it,
install FreeBSD
or Linux to play with. I have a laptop with Office 2003 on it. I'll just use
it.

Thanks for the suggestions.

And that edition was widely pirated as soon as it was released to manufacturing. No wonder you are having problems with it.
