Office Xp Standard 2002 repair problem

I have a problem with Excel. I went to add/remove programs to do a repair.
When I inserted the Office disc, as instructed, my computer shut down and
restarted. There was a "serious error" message. I tried it again, same
problem. Then I just inserted the disc to see if I could approach repair from
that direction, you guessed it, same problem. I have done this before with no
problems. I thought about uninstalling/reinstalling Office, but what if it
won't reinstall. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Peter
I inserted the disc again to see if there was anything more than "Serious
Error", and guess what, it didn't shut my computer down. I then proceeded to
the repair process and everything worked fine. I can't imagine what was
wrong. Thanks for your input.
