Office XP suddenly cannot carry out junk mail rules

Sorry to re-post but I had noticed on past occasions that postings often do
not seem to get responded to on the Microsoft forums more than once (either
that or my problem is insoluble: I have had insoluble problems in the past
with compact not compacting and with scanpst not curing any problems and
leaving a 400 mb pst file with seemingly no data whatsoever in it)

I have set up various junk mail rules which filter out mail containing all
the usual junk mail words and put them into my deleted items folder. By and
large it seemed to do the job fairly well for a year or so.

But it has started sendung me the warning that it cannot delete the mail
from my inbox. It does this on various junk mail rules so there doesnt seem
to be any way of seeing which parameters it SUDDENLY doesn't like.

It suddenly gave me this message a week or so ago. It then worked for a week
and started doing this on all junk mail rules today. The rule seems to be
working in that it does occasionally send junk mail to my deleted items
folder but always stops mail delivery pending my acknowledging that it
'cannot delete items from the folder'.

Is this a known problem? Is it something I can repair? Can Detect and Repair
from within Office do this? May it be caused by something which Scanpst
could cure or am I on the wrong track in thinking of these last two
solutions? Is there a difference between files associated with setting up
the program (such as the junk mail rules) and correcting problems inside the
..pst data file?

Or, again, was there no reply to my last post becasue this problem is
completely unknown and no one knows what might solve it?
