We need to uninstall officeXP at the command line. We
get the error:

ERROR_PRODUCT_VERSION
1638
Another version of this product is already
installed. Installation of this version
cannot continue. To configure or remove
the existing version of this product, use
Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel.

We do not have any other versions installed... could the
regular hotfixes cause this??? In any case we need to
uninstall officexp from the command line as we do not
want to go to each computer on the network to uninstall
office xp.

Reason for uninstalling:
We have a site license for office 2003 but it doesn't
come with FrontPage. Our version of OffXP is
Professional with FrontPage. We don't use FrontPage and
don't want to have to update FrontPage (OfficeUpdate will
prompt to install critical updates for all of office xp
if FrontPage remains, even after you install office
2003). There is no way to uninstall frontpage with the
office 2003 install. It is very annoying. :)

Thanks for any help anyone has to offer,

If you install 2003, on a sys that has Offxp, it will upgrade that
installation to 2003 any crit.updates will be for 2003, there may be
suggested updates for Frontpage, but they will not install unless you
specifically do so.

Have you tried this??? I installed 2003 on one computer
and left the Frontpage. When I went to get the critical
updates it not only listed the 2003 updates but it said I
needed to update my Word XP and Outlook XP both of which
are "uninstalled" when you install word 2003 and outlook
2003. The site recognizes that I have office xp not that
I have just FrontPage.

My actual question is how can I get office uninstalled
from the commandline and bypass the error I'm getting.

Not specifically with 2003, Its just that when I've had an earlier single
Office app installed together with a later version full Office suite I've
never had that problem.( Using diff.versions of Access)
Perhaps MS have altered their update engine. As far as I'm aware there is
still the facility to customise yr updates
