Office XP Update - Can't find PRORET.MSI on Office XP CD

B

Brad Wiesley

I am running the Office XP updater and it keeps asking
for the Office XP CD (I am using the volume license CDs
that I have under a select agreement) and the installer
keeps giving me an error message that says:

"The path 'Microsoft Office XP Professional' cannot be
found. Verify that you have access to this location and
try again. or try to find the installation
package 'PRORET.MSI' in a folder from which you can
install the product Microsoft XP Professional.

I can't find this file on the CD or the Hard Drive, and
can't continue the install without it. How do I proceed?

I am not an MCSE, but I have been researching this
problem for myself.

..MSI's are installation packages.

The Service Packs seem to guess incorrectly about the
media (CD) you have based on the programs it finds
installed.

PRORET.MSI comes on (cd root) the Office XP Professional
without Frontpage. I have this. My problem is the updater
is looking for PROPLUS.MSI, I guess because I installed
Frontpage separately.

The fix seems to be to uninstall all office components,
install just your Office CD (no stand alone products)and
run the updater. Then install your stand alone product(s).

Sorry to bear bad news...
