Office XP Upgrade version reinstall help

Hello. I had to replace the hard drive of my Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop. In
2002, I upgraded from Office 97 to Office XP, and had purchased the upgrade
version of Office XP in order to do so. I need to reinstall Office XP but it
won't let me because it does not find a qualifying version of previous
software on my new hard drive. I haven't had the old Office 97 software for
some time. I have the original packing for Office XP Upgrade version with
key number, and Microsoft will find it registered to me before. Help, what
can I do?

I have not had the old Office 97 floppies in some time, 2-3 years maybe.
This doesn't seem fair, but I guess I'll have to deal with it. Thanks for
your quick reply.

You need the qualifying product - period. No way around that. I'd suggest
you start looking for those floppies.

All is not lost, search Google for Office 97 or any other qualifying
product, check Ebay, Craig's List, local computer swap meets, etc.

Good luck!

If you decide to do so, you could purchase an upgrade version of any Office
2007 edition { or Office 2003 if you can find an upgrade version}. Your
Office XP upgrade CD is a qualifying product. Installation of Office XP not
required.
