What fun.
microsoft upgrade time.
the old computer came with office pro installed.
I have an valid operating existing office 95 pro installation
which is running on the hard drive.
Belarc can find the product, and the license.
I tried to upgrade it to office xp, and it fails:
"can not find qualifying version to upgrade."
(why does it not simply look at the hard drive?)
MS phone support says no cd, no install, no upgrade.
since that software is about 7 years old,
and we moved after we installed it,
I can no longer find the original cd.
I go to support.microsoft.com to get online help,
and the first question is enter the product id.
If I could run the program, it would give me the product id,
but I can not install it so I can not run it.
the cd case has the product name.
the cd has the software to install.
the cd case has the software key.
the cd case does not have anything like a product id,
other than cd set: x08-02815,
but that is not what it is looking for.
So I can no longer get online support
because the product id is not on the cd case.
so apparently
I bought a valid upgrade
for a valid licensed installation,
and can not install it.
Dealing with office xp and microsoft support
has been a less than pleasant and productive experience.
microsoft:
where the customer comes last,
and even then only because they bring money.
If you had to take your car to the dealer
for 'factory updates' every week or so,
would you trust the car maker again?
