New computer with VISTA. Old computer with XP Home. Program Files: Office XP
Pro. Anything I should be aware of before I start migrating program files and
documents to the new computer with VISTA?

Yes. You can't "migrate" program files. You need to uninstall on the XP
machine and install on the Vista machine using the original installation
media.

In my case, the old machine was an XP machine that had Office XP (2002) on
it. It "Died" with a hard drive crash a couple of weeks ago. I purchased a
new machine with Vista Premium. I want to load Office XP. However, the
drive on the old machine had to be replaced with a new drive. I have my
Office XP disc (purchased direct from MS) but I can't uninstall the "old"
version because the drive is now a paperweight. What do I do? I want to
use Office XP because that's what I still have at the office.

Thanks.

In that case, don't uninstall if the drive is now a paper weight. Install on
the new machine (be aware that there are issues with Outlook XP on Vista
anyway) and if you need to use telephone activation just tell the Agent
what's happened...

You simply install it on the Vista PC
Since the old installation no longer exists there's nothing to uninstall

PS OfficeXP is not fully compatible with Vista, primarily Outlook
Ensure you uninstall any Trial version first

I'm running into the same problem and cant get any help via phone. Have
original Office XP install discs and product keys. Insert the CD into a new
vista machine and try to run the set-up but get a message saying it cannot
locate a qualifying product on the machine and asks me to select a drive. I
select H (my cd/dvd drive) and it says it cannot find a qualifying product
and shuts down. Short of shelling out a ton of $$ for a new version, any
advice?

It appears that you purchased a Upgrade version of Office. You would need a
qualifying product that the Upgrade would recognize. (Previous Office version,Works)
If you do not have any then try and exchange it for a full Retail version at the
retailer where you purchased this Upgrade.

You will need either Office 2000 or 97 CD to act as your qualifying product.
See this site for exact qualification guidelines:
