Office XP: Word 2002 Crash

I am running Word 2002 from Office XP in Windows XP.
Everytime I open Word and leave it for a few seconds, it
crashes. Moreover, it crashes when I try to open a
document, exit, save, or print. There is no error
message; Word just stops working (the cursor and screen
freezes). I have tried reinstalling Word several times
and using different copies, but without success. This
only happens in Word, and other Office XP applications are
fine. I believe there is a corrupt file somewhere.

Reinstalling rarely helps; renaming Normal.dot often does. See
