Office2000 updates? ... or OpenOffice

Office 2000 works just fine for us.
We had a computer crash and are reinstalling Office2000.
Can we update it?? If so, where do we get the files as the one for SR-1
(O2KSR1aDL.exe) has been disabled on the MS sites and seems to be hard to get.

No... we don't want to upgrade. Software doesn't "wear out" as it "gets old".

Can we update it?? If so, how... and where are the links to get it?
If not..... I guess we've been thinking of moving to OpenOffice anyway.

You need to install updates from:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/downloads/CD010225181033.aspx

Click on Updates. There are three pages of updates. Service Release 1a is
near the bottom of page 3. Suggest you read the directions and FAQ.
Especially the FAQ on what SR-1a is:

"What is the Office 2000 SR-1a update?
The Office 2000 SR-1a update includes the original Office 2000 SR-1 update
and the Office 2000 SR-1/Windows 2000 Utility: Registry Repair. This utility
is the only addition to the SR-1a update. ....."

I started there.... this isn't the full SP1 file, it's an installer.... and,
from everything I can read online, it doesn't work anymore.

So.... I've tried to find the full SP1 file.... name listed above... and
it's been removed from
here:http://www.microsoft.com/office/orkarchive/2000ddl.htm#o2sr1au

so... now what... hard not to be cynical when it looks like its purposely
been removed... although I do appreciate your help!

Mary.... I appreciate your help and am hoping you can see what my issue is.
I'll be specific and copy each link of what I'm trying to do:

OK.... One of the links on that page is:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/245025/

If I go 3/4 of the way down that page to the section:

How to obtain the fully downloadable SR-1 Update

I get this link

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/258323/

If I go there, click on resource kit, and go to
http://www.microsoft.com/office/orkarchive/2000ddl.htm#o2sr1au

.... the link for O2ksr1adl.exe

doesn't work.

OK.... now what???

Thanks.... I really am trying to do the right things here (I think)

I, too, needed the SR-1a update - and found the download from Microsoft
Office updates page no longer works - as you did. So I did a Google search
for "o2ksr1adl.exe download" and after some searching finally found it on
this FTP mirror site.

http://www.filewatcher.com/m/O2KSR1aDL.EXE.53816504.0.0.html

Some of the downloads are for other language versions. The one that worked
for me (appeared to be US version) was the first one.

ftp://ftp.uni-rostock.de/pub/tools/microsoft/ServicePacks/Office9/us/SR1/O2KSR1aDL.EXE

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Ohio, I, too, found a download site when I searched on that term and
got it.

...... there aren't many, though.... why do I suspect that MS wants them gone?
........ why else would they take it down from their site??

But the point is... thanks for your help.... it's good to know there are
others trying to help each other out here.
