Office2007 SP1 and Automatic Updates?

D.P. Roberts

Does anyone know when Office 2007 SP1 will be able to be installed by
Automatic Updates? So far it is only available via manual installation, and
I've got several hundred machines I'd like it to be installed on.
Alternatively, is there a group policy setting that will force its
installation? It is frustrating because if I go to the windows update site
the service pack is listed as a high priority update, but it doesn't get
installed by the Automatic Updates process.

Hi D.P.,

I don't recall having seen a date yet on when Office 2007 Service Pack 1 will be available through http://update.microsoft.com as an
automatic/pushed update. At present you can download and install by script or it's available on CD
(http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/downloads/FX010383631033.aspx
or use Windows Server Update Services (WSUS)
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/wsus/default.aspx

Hi Charles,

Do you have Microsoft Update on Windows vista set to notify you of updates before installing? You could, in that scenario, receive
the full Office 2007 SP1 after accepting the notification, but my understanding is that a 'push' install through the enduser MS
Update tool has not yet happened.

Office 2007 SP1 installed automatically on my computer on 4/9/2008. <<

P.S....

In the Group Policy Object Editor:
Computer Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows
Components > Windows Update

-Configure Automatic Updates is where you can turn them on/off or Not
configured (for situations where updates are handled by other means such as
by SMS)

There are a number of other options there which are pretty self-explainitory.

Hope this helps!
