Do you perhaps have the Skype plug-in for Office installed?
It's a common cause for this type of error. Uninstall this and try again.

forgot to mention skype is not installed either. I have disabled all add-ins.
I've searched all over for the answer but no forums or discussuins have a
solid conclusion.

You've changed the subject and not appended anything to a prior thread. So,
what are you talking about?

Sorry, it didn't fill in the subject so I thought I had to type a subject for
the reply. The thread makes sense if you open it and read through. The last
person asked if I had skype installed. I said no. I'm guessing "Re:
officelifeboathang outlook.exe" needs to be the subject as it, again, hasn't
filled it in.

he asked if skype was installed and it isn't. I'm having trouble with the
board in that it isn;t appending or filling in the subject for any new posts.
seems ok now. if you read all the way through the thread it makes sense.

Same here, and there are lots of reports of this around on the Internet.

I don't use exchange, just an IMap server, but have same problem; Outlook
hangs on "Preparing to send/receive", and then it has to be stopped, and it
dies with this error.

Any solutions - Microsoft??

It's Microsoft Office Program Recovery. This is also known as Office
Lifeboat.

There may be a 3rd party add-in, a corrupted template or document, a damaged
registry or another factor, such as HP PhotoSmart Printer driver, or other
issue going on. To start, use Start=>Search to cleanup and delete any left
over files from crashes by searching for file names found using:

~$*.*;*.tmp

OK, this is always a useful cleanup - but how does it identify a cause of,
or prevent such hangs?
