Offices 2003 and 2007 coexistence

I read the response from DL as to whether or not Office 2003 and a Beta
version of 2007 could coexist on the same machine.....response was only 3
words.

I have Office 2003 Pro on my machine and have purchased a full license of
Office 2007 Pro, not an upgrade. Can I install them on the same machine? I
have installed a second hard drive.....if they can exist, should I install
2007 on the slave? Want ability to utilize both versions until I am
comfortable with switching....

I understand that it is gone, that is what my question was saying. The only
response I could find was one involving BETA, I have the released version of
2007, and was asking the question regarding installation of that version

Hi Doug,

Office 2003 and 2007 can co-exist (except for Outlook).

When you install 2007 you have the option of keeping the 2003 versions of
the programs or replacing them. If you elect to keep them, Outlook 2007 will
still replace Outlook 2003. But the other 2003 programs should remain.

One issue you'll get if you switch between Word 2003 and 2007 is a
"mini-install" that occurs each time you start the version which is not the
one you last used.

There is a workaround for this; here's something from a post by Jay Freedman
that details it:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's the information supplied by our contact at Microsoft:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Windows Installer is running because it is setting the
CurrentVersion information in the registry between the versions. It
is possible to set a registry key to block the Windows Installer
kicking in. You'll want to only do this after confirming that
double-clicking on a document file from the Windows Desktop opens in
the version Word that you would like to be the default version for
editing Word documents. It will still be possible to open the
document in either version of Microsoft Word via File|Open.
The registry modification is ...
Use the NoRereg key for whichever version you don't want to register.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Options
Add a DWORD named NoRereg set to 1
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Also read the following article for more information about using
multiple versions on the same partition:

Using 2007 Office suites and programs on a computer that is running
another version of Office

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Regards.
