OFFLINE CHANGES (URGENT)

M

Marco A. Ferreira

Fellows,

I saved a project that was published in the Project Server as a MPP file. I
made a few changes in the schedule, resources and added a few tasks.

Then, when i came back to office i tryed to publish and overwrite the
changes in the Microsoft Project Server, but it was rejected.

Is there a way to work offline in a project file and then publish the
changes back to the server?

Thanks,

Marco A. Ferreira

While in Project Pro 2002 and logged on to Project
Server, go to the file menu and choose Work Offline.
Then you can make changes offline and when you are ready
to place it back out in the server you choose

Hi,

You need to use the File, Save Offline command. That maintains the
Enterprise data and checks the project out from Project Server so no one
else tries to edit data at the same time.

In Project Professional, enter Offline into the Help box in the top right
corner of your screen for more help on this.

Marco,

You can still save the changes to the file you saved as .mpp. You need
to have your server administrator remove the original file from the
server (through the Web Access, if you use it), and then place the new
file (your .mpp) file in its place.

Marco --

Before you can work with offline projects, please do the following to check
a setting:

1. In Microsoft Project 2002, click Tools - Enterprise Options - Microsoft
Project Server Accounts
2. Select the "Manually control connection state" option and then click OK
3. Close Microsoft Project 2002

The proper way to work offline with an enterprise project is as follows:

1. Open Microsoft Project 2002, select your user account, and then click
the Connect button
2. Open an enterprise project stored in Project Server
3. Click the File menu, and click Save Offline
4. Close Microsoft Project 2002

The offline project will be saved on your hard drive so that you can work on
it while you are away from the office, such as on an airliner or in a hotel.
While away from the office, do the following:

1. Open Microsoft Project 2002, select your user account, and then click
the Work Offline button
2. Click File - Open, select your offline project, and then click the Open
button

3. Edit the project as you wish (you cannot use enterprise features,
however)
3. When you have finished editing the project, click File - Save to save
the latest changes to this offline project
4. Close Microsoft Project 2002

When you get back to the office and are logged into your company network, do
the following:

1. Open Microsoft Project 2002, select your user account, and then click
the Connect button
2. Click File - Open, select your offline project, and then click the Open
button

3. To save the changes in the offline project to the Project Server
database, click File - Save Online

4. Click the Yes button when prompted about overwriting the enterprise
project

That's how to do it. Hope this helps. Also, I would recommend that you
post messages about Project 2002 and Project Server in the following
newsgroup:
