Offline Contact GROUPS rather than just Global Address List

Using Exch 2003 under Win2003 with OL2003...
I've created several Address Lists under All Contacts in Exchange Server.
They correspond to
several AD OU's for contacts.
In Outlook, all of these many contacts show up in the Global Address List
(it'd be nice if they didn't), but they also show up as separate groups
under All Contacts (that was my goal).
My understanding is that these contact address lists are accessed by Outlook
through the Offline Folder / Offline Address List....

Online, ALL contacts, users, groups, etc. are listed in the Global Address
List (a lot), but you can filter to a specific contact group under All
Contact, or also all users, or all groups.
OFFLINE however, you can only access the Global Address List. When you try
to filter to one of the contact groups it gives the connection failed error.
With hundreds of contacts, this is a real pain not, yet I know that the
contacts are being downloaded, again because I can see and access them under
the offline Global Address List. I just can filter to one particular group.

How under this structure can I make it so these separate Address Lists under
All Contacts are selectable offline.

Thanks for any direction (and for reading this wordy post for a simple
problem)!
