OK, another weird thing in my spreadsheets

S

Susy

For a couple of days now, any number I type into a cell
goes automatically to hundredths (i.e., I type 4, it
appears as 0.04). I have to type 4.0 to make a whole
number. Where do I fix this?

Thanks

Hi Susy,

Everybody gets hit by this sooner or later, you think you really
changed nothing after changing the option.
Tools, Options, Edit, Fixed decimal ___2___ places

What it actually does is. If you do not include a decimal point it will
create one for you so if you type 1245 it will enter it as with 2 places
or 12.45 If you type 12. (with the period) you would get 12.00

Remove the the check mark for that option. Basically only used by
accountants, and since it applies to all cells, and is not selective, I
don't really see it doing much good for them but they use it and I
presume like it anyway.

Perfect! Thanks. (I'm mystified about how this setting was
changed in the first place, though.)

You probably thought it was a default for displaying numbers
with decimals which you may or may not have noticed when you
did it that it wasn't. But forgot about it, since it didn't seem to
do anything. After all you type 12.34 and that's what you
see. You might go one or two days before you suddenly
discover that you've been typing in a lot of garbage that went
unnoticed.

You could turn the tables and do it everyone else in the office.
Anyone who is still laughing must be part of a conspiracy, and
then you know it was them not you that changed your settings.
But unless you take proactive steps you'll never know.
