OK to delete old 2004 Identity after Upgrade to 2008?

I just installed the upgrade from Office 2004 to 2008. Appeared to go without a hitch. Any reason not to delete the old 2004 identity (which was duplicated to the 2008 folder and appears to work fine, although slightly larger). I'd like to get the 3gb back on my local HDD.

I'd back it up to a DVD-R or similar medium before deleting it, just in
case. But after you've done so, you should be able to delete it without
problem.

I have a related question. I'm trying to delete the 2004 identity and I get a message that it is in use. I have a 2008 identity that has been created and I'm not concerned about a back up because I have everything on my exchange server and also in Outlook on my computer. Just want the 1Gig of space.
Thanks for your help

The error "in use" is normally a Finder error. I see this a lot if I open a
disk image and don't quit TextEdit when trying to empty the trash.

How exactly are you trying to delete it? Is the error coming when you try to
empty the trash? Do you still have Office 2004 installed?

Hi Diane,
Yes, I have deleted Entourage 2004 but I still have installed and use the other components of 2004, because I had lots of issues with Office 2008, though Entourage 2008 is operating nicely with zero issues for me.
Is that the reason I can't delete it?

It's probably the Microsoft Database daemon that's being called as Jolly
mentioned. Delete it from log in items. If it's needed, then it will be
automatically added.

It's generally not a good idea to delete one application from the Office
suite. Updates can fail if all applications are not found. Office 2004 is
pretty much in it's last stages, but you are still using it and might need
future updates. The Entourage 2004 application is just 10.7 MB.
