OL 2000 crashes

I'm running OL 2000 SR-1 on a Dell laptop running WIN98 SE.

Problem:

OL2000 stops working and returns "white" error box with message "An
error has ocurred..." While given the option to "Close" or "Ignore,"
nothing happens if you click on "Ignore". Selecting "Close" results
in an error window stating "This program has performed... and locks
system. At this point system must be rebooted.

Any thoughts?

BTW, OL2000 has worked correctly on this laptop and there were no
known software/application additions or changes that prior to the
problem ocurring.

Are you saying 'it doesnt load/start' ; or it fails after a time whilst
doing what?

Application starts wihout problem but hangs up after limited usage.

No apparent pattern to indicate common failure point. In other words,
it doesn't always fail after I've polled for new mail, or changed
folders, or switched from mail to calendar.

Have you tried a Detect/Repair?
Are there any Com addins? , if so disable these and test.
Any Fax apps interacting with OL?

Yes, I have run Detect/Repair.
No known comm add-ins.
No fax apps installed.
