OL 2007 connecting to server issues

B

boyshanks

On my laptop which runs VISTA sometimes when I turn it on and open OL 2007 a
small window pops up with a temp bar that says 'connecting to server'. In
short order the window disappears and my emails begin to arrive. Outlook
performs as expected.

There are other times that I open OL and my emails don't arrive and I get a
send/receive error message. Sometimes I have to reboot, sometimes I have to
reopen OL several times before the server connection window appears.

??? What can I do to get OL 2007 to attempt to connect with the server
without closing and reopening or rebooting?

I do know that when I am having problems with OL on my laptop there are no
problems with my internet connection or my ISP server as I have a desktop
that is on that is sending and receiving emails without problem.

Thanks in advance.

Here is the send/receive error

Task 'Donna Shanks - Receiving' reported error (0x80042108) : 'Outlook
cannot connect to your incoming (POP3) e-mail server. If you continue to
receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service
provider (ISP).'

Not sure of the answer to your other question but I think the answer is
POP3.

I am not using an internet email like Yahoo or Gmail.

So what did your ISP say when you contacted them about this error?

My ISP says nothing is wrong on their end.

We go through all of the cycling, rebooting, pinging etc to see if there is
a connection problem however on their end there is no problem. This is
further proved by my deskstop which is connected to the same ISP service and
has no Outlook server connection issues.

They do not troubleshoot Outlook issues.

Is there a way to for me to make/cause Outlook to contact the server when it
doesn't do it on it's own?

I thought the answer might be in the local services folder because in that
folder I can make my print spooler connect but other than that I don't know
anything about that folder.

Thanks in advance.

Turn on diagnostic logging (tools->options->other->advanced) and see what it
says after your next send/receive. If you like, you can post the relevant
portion to this group to have the experts review.

I've done what you asked but please tell me where I get the logging
information file to post? I am running OL 2007 on VISTA. My email is POP3

The send/receive progress window displays the same error I posted earlier.

I have since spoken with different folks at my ISP and it is definitely not
on their end. My other computers run OL 07 on XP and are having no problems
connecting to the server.

I googled this problem and I see others have the same problem but no one
seems to have an answer that works.

I really need help.

Thanks

I gather no one has an answer? I too have been expericening this problem.
No matter what I do, I can not connect to the server. My ISP also says
everything is okay on their end. My outlook 07 ran fine on my XP, but now
that I have Vista...all is caput. We must accept that Outlook 07 doesn't
work with Vista and use someting different. Oh well......

Outlook 2007 works perfectly well with Vista. I use it there (and on Windows
XP and Windows 7). Are you sure you don't have a network issue? See if
anything in the articles listed here helps:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=+vista++network++tune . Read the
ones on Vista's network autotuning first.
