OL 2002: Sending via POP3 to users on my exchange server

I have Microsoft Exchange set up as my primary email account. I also have
several POP3 accounts, and two hotmail accounts. I am having a problem
sending outbound via POP3 and hotmail: If I send to an email address outside
of my company (not already a part of exchange server), the email is sent out
fine. However, if I attempt to send from one of the POP3 accounts or hotmail
accounts to an email in my corporate exchange system, that's when I have
issues. Even if I select just that POP3/hotmail account to send/receive, it
also attempts to log on to exchange (asking me for my username, password,
domain). When I am on the road don't have access to my VPN so I can't get to
exchange, so I can't log on to that. If I simply cancel this logon box, the
email remains in my outbox. Is there a way to prevent this seemingly useless
attempt to logon to my exchange server?

Thanks!
