OL 2003 Leave Mail On Server option stopped working

I was successfully having my mail left on the POP3 server when
suddenly this feature stopped working about 2 weeks ago and now all
messages download and the server gets wiped. I have unchecked and re-
checked the leave a copy of messages on the server option in a feeble
attempt to reset to no avail. I have created a new test profile and
it won't respect the setting there either.

Any suggestions for getting this back in order? I'm running Outlook
2003 (11.8118) SP2.
