OL 2007 does not terminate correctly

G

Goran Ekstrom

Hi,
I have this once-per-three annoyance with closing OL 2007, when I log out,
XP prompts me to kill OL2007 even though it has dissappeard from the task
bar. Usually only irritating but somtimes I get prompted if I want to start
OL in safe mode. Is this a known problem?

XP Pro. all SP's and Office 2007 Pro. all SP's.

Thanks

No, there is no issue with that. Does you virus scanner perhaps integrate
with Outlook?
How's the behavior in Outlook Safe Mode?
Start-> Run; outlook.exe /safe

Yup, the ususal "scan incoming/outgoing/etc." functionality. Can try to
disable it jut to test I guess, on the other hand it is a McAfee product
that is up to date so if it was a common problem they should have fixed it
or is that just wishful thinking perhaps...

Therein lies the problem, McAfee. Uninstall it, use McAfee's debris removal
tool to cleanup the crud the uninstaller leaves behind, then do a custom
re-install WITHOUT the email scanning modules; merely disabling the email
scanner is usually NOT sufficient An email scanner is totally redundant, it
does nothing but cause problems, and your system is fully protected WITHOUT
it, provided the resident file system scanner is kept up to date. Both
McAfee and it's ugly older cousin, Norton, are far more invasive and
disruptive than any of the malware they're designed to keep out.

It makes a difference in the "crap status" but it doesn't change the
reasoning for having it integrating with Outlook. Additionally, I believe
the 8.0.0 release doesn't even officially support Outlook 2007. Your company
is quite some updates and patches behind. I believe the current release is
8.5.

OK, I'll check that out, thanks!
