OL2002: How to see number of items in the Outlook bar or Folder Vi

....by default, if I click on the Inbox, I usually see the toal number of
items within it, plus the number of unread items. This total is also visible
in other areas. One user cannot see these totals for some reason: any ideas
why and how to restore them?
