OL2002 remember password - sometimes?

I know there is a KB article about this, but this only occurs randomly, on several computers.

The password prompt pops up(and the password IS remembered) when trying to connect to pop3. Again, it only happens once in a while.

Does this have anything to do with connectivity, or our mail server settings(which someone else hosts)?

Can't MS offer a patch for this in the service packs, or updates?
