OL2003: Slow Attachment Opening

B

BS

I have problem with slow opening of attachments in Outlook 2003.
This problem encounted when I installed Office 2003. I'm 98% sure that there
was no problem with Office XP.

Configuration is not the problem P4/2.x Mhz/512 RAM

I'm connected to Exchange 2000 Server, so none of the Outlook offline
options are not installed and turned on.

Machine is working in LAN environment.

Generally, the problem is this:
Outlook works fine and have no problems with mail loading and showing on the
screen. But, when I try to open some attachment (Word, Excel, ...) the whole
Outlook is blocked. Then there is 20-25 seconds delay when I can not use
Outlook at all. System is not busy, processor usage stays at 5-10% ?! After
25 seconds attachment opens in its main program and system continues to work
normally.

I don't know what is the problem. Can somebody help me?
I tried to find it on the Net. I found lots of mails with the same problem
but found no solution. Any Ideas?

Thanx . . . .

I to have been have the problem with slow opening mail for users.

One thing you havent mention though , are you using CACHE mode at all..?

Alot of people are suggesting that virus scanning software could be causing
the problem..
As i have found the after the inital wait for the attachment to open , it
opens up fast there after.

Regards,

Glen.

No, I do not use it at all. I'm connected to Exchange 5.5 so none of caching
options can work.
I do not think that AV sw is the problem because when I try to open Word
files regularely there is no problem.
Attachments are only problem that bothers me in Outlook 2k3.

Yes, after Word/Excell or some other program is opened attachments are
opened a little bit quicker but not so much. Opening lasts for cca 15
seconds comparing to 25-30 for the first opening. :(

Check the following in Outlook:
Tools\Options\Other\Advanced Options\Add-In Manager and check whether you
have any third-party antivirus scanning tools with a check mark. You should
only see the default five items that come with Outlook.
I have seen this issue many times before and the cause was client
antivirus scanners scanning local attachments when opening it in Outllook.
