OL2K Crashes

I am having a serious problem with OL2k. I reinstalled it a weeks ago or so
because it kept crashing. After the reinstall it seemed to work OK until a
dayk or two ago. Now it crashes if I click Send/Receive (my Comcast e-mail
is not showing up) and some other functions. And if it does not crash while
I am trying to use it the darned thing crashes when I try to exit! Any ideas
what is causing this? In conjunction with the reinstall I installed SP-3 and
some undates for WinMe (Yes, I know WinMe stinks). I cannot think of
anything else I might have done.

Thanks! I don't really get an error message (except below). I seem to be
able to navigate around in OL (no trouble with COntacts or Calendar--I think)
but if I try to open any e-mail or click Send/Receive or exit the cursor
turns to an hourglass and nothing happens. I click
Ctrl-Alt-Del>Outlook>Close Program and a few seconds later I get the Program
not Responding message. Click on End Taskand OL finally closes.

But I noticed a few odd things. One is that I have a message sitting in the
Outbox--a joke message I composed and to which I attached a short video clip
(I send my friends and relatives only the really good ones). If I try to
open it or right click>Options I get this message: The MAPI Spooler has
already begun transmitting this message. I tried deleting or moving this
file but OL pretty much ignores my instructions, but without any message.

I checked out the pst file size and found something wierd. Just before I
opened OL a few minutes ago the file size was 81,264kb. It is located in
c:\windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\JWM Personal. (My initials are
JWM) When I started OL I found a whole pile of old e-mail had been
downloaded (but nothing from the past few days--it is probably sitting on my
Comcast server--getting my e-mail from Comcast is a separate problem with OL
but not with OL Express). I deleted nearly everything. The current size
is 80,721kb. This seems like a HUGE file considering that I have only 159
Contacts, not a lot of e-mail in various folders (each of a dozen or so has
between 0-10, but I can't get far enough down the list to add them up before
OL crashes. And it is more than twice the size of the pst file I saved a few
weeks before I did the reinstall. I had saved that 11/24 as mailboxold.pst
in c:\windows\Applicatin Data\Microsoft\Outlook\JWM Personal and its size is
36,448kb. Oddly, I have another mailbox.pst file (49,920kb) in
c:\windows\Applicatin Data\Microsoft\Outlook. It is dated 12/11 which around
the time I reinstalled OL. Why I have have two separate mailbox.pst files is
a mystery (long ago I had the idea that my wife and I would use OL with
different profiles--back when I also synched OL with my firms Exchange Server
using a dialup connection, but I abandoned the effort almost as soon as I
started--and the dialup terminated last Spring and I reconfigured OL ffirst
as IMO and then as CWG but without any connection elsewhere)

It may not be related but the OL problems seemed to coincide with suddenly
having problems getting my e-mail in OL from Comcast. No problem with OL
Express, only with OL. Comcast insists it does not "support" OL.

I ran scanpst.exe on all the pst files and no errors were found. It
reported the following values for Folders/Errors?/Items:
....\Outlook\JWM Personal\mailbox.pst(12/20/04): 42/No/1066
....\Outlook\JWM Personal\mailboxold.pst (11/24/04): 35/No/575
....\Outlook\mailbox.pst (12/17/04): 36/No/576

I will check some of the other suggestions in your reference. Sorry for
the length of this but I figured it is easier to skip over the irrelevant
stuff than to wonder what else was going on.

Success? Maybe. After trying most of the steps outlined in your reference I
wondered if there was something wrong with my pst file (it seemed
suspiciously bloated but with no obvious problem). So I renamed it
mailbox.old; OL will not start without the file. So I renamed my backup from
11/24 as mailbox.pst. and restarted OL. It seems to work fine. No crashes
(so far) and I now get and receive e-mail without no apparently problem. I
will post if some further problem surfaces.
