OLAP Cube Build Initiating but not completing

In the last few days our regular overnight OLAP cube build has initiated but
not completed, remaining "hanging". I think that the problem may be in our
View Drop folder which is retaining a lot of XML files. If we park these in
a temp folder then the build will work - when we put them back the build
hangs. Any ideas as to what might be causing this and how we can fix it?
What happens if we get rid of the offending clog of XML files?

Martin:

The backup of XML packages indicates a serious problem in your system
configuration. Have you looked at your server event logs? The errors in the
application log is your first stop on the way to diagnosing this problem.

Thanks Gary - The event log error messages are not particularly helpful so I
left the system unloaded over the weekend to see if the logjam cleared - it
has not. As you suspect a configuration problem I think we will need to get
this looked at unless you have any suggestions of where to look.

Hi Gary - The only message which seems to come close is 0x80040213 "The
transport failed to connect to the server".

Hello MartinG

It seems that we have the same problems as you. The symtoms are equal. Have
you a solution for this problem?

Thank you

Hi Oliver - I got around the problem by removing the backlog of XML files
from viewdrop into a temp folder then restarting the Views Notification
service. You can feed the XML files back from the temp folder one at a time
and pick up the one which causes the blockage and use that to figure out why
the block happened. We still do not know why the block happened but seem to
have things working OK at the moment.
